What to expect — the WikiLeaks UFO cables

December 6, 2010Comments No comments

During the Guardian Q&A with Julian Assange last Friday, the WikiLeaks founder said what every UFO researcher and believer wanted to hear — that some yet-to-be-published embassy cables indeed include references to UFOs.

Following this highly anticipated statement, a collective gasp flowed through the UFO community and innumerable blog posts and forum threads were quickly written on the subject. Could we finally be seeing a decent disclosure, if only a small one?

Probably not.

Thing is, while the embassy cables received by WikiLeaks are classified documents, none of them are classified higher than Secret. Remember, the documents came from SIPRNet, which is a secure network used by the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of State. Millions of U.S. federal employees have access to this information.

Documents classified as Secret are thought to cause grave damage to national security if they were publicly available. As I’m sure the U.S. government wouldn’t want leaked UFO documents to compromise their national security, such documents would most probably be classified as Top Secret, which is described as the highest level of classification of material on a national level. Such material would cause “exceptionally grave damage” to national security if made publicly available.

None of the cablegate documents are classified as Top Secret.

With this in mind, what can we expect from the alleged UFO cables in terms of interestingness? One can only speculate at this point. Maybe there are simply a few references to UFO sightings in the countries where the embassies are located. Unidentified flying objects are reported fairly frequently after all, and they sometimes leave the military puzzled, even worried (the famous UFO sightings in Belgium in 1990 comes to mind).

Or maybe there’s something about the recent declaration by several retired U.S. Air Force pilots that aliens have disabled nuclear missiles.

Or something else entirely. I’m not getting my hopes up, and I’m certainly not subscribing to the idea that we will see a full blown alien disclosure, as is being discussed on certain alternative forums and blogs.

What do you think? Do you expect we’ll see any groundbreaking UFO information in these cables?
